SEOUL, Nov. 16 (Yonhap) -- A Seoul court on Wednesday rejected a TV celebrity's appeal of his conviction for a deliberate enlistment delay and upheld a suspended jail term handed down earlier this year.
Reading a summary of its decision, the appellate division of the Seoul Central District Court said it rejected the appeal after concluding that MC Mong obstructed justice by delaying the enlistment on accounts of false excuses.
The same court in April sentenced the celebrity whose real name is Shin Dong-hyun to a six-month prison sentence, suspended for one year, plus 120 hours of community service, for obstructing justice.
The appeals body, however, found the celebrity not guilty of trying to evade military duty by extracting one of his healthy teeth, upholding the original court ruling. It said the extraction was made for a clinical need.
The not-guilty decision will likely mean Shin's military exemption remains intact.
The 32-year-old entertainer and singer had been well-received for his humorous role in the famous TV show "One Night, Two Days."
But he has been shut out of other TV programs since he was indicted in October of last year on charges of military draft dodging and obstructing justice.
According to the charges prosecutors raised against the entertainer, he had his healthy tooth pulled out in 2006 in order to avoid the two years of mandatory service at a military camp and delayed enlistment on accounts of false excuses, including an exam for a public official position and an overseas performance trip.

MC몽 병역위반혐의 유죄.."죄값 평생 지겠다"
가수 MC몽(본명 신동현.32)이 16일 병역 위반 혐의에 대한 항소심 판결이 나온 후 트위터를 통해 "모두 내 잘못"이라며 "이 죄값 평생지고 가겠다"는 사과의 글을 올렸다.
MC몽은 이날 서울중앙지법 형사항소2부(이재영 부장판사)에서 열린 선고 공판에서 1심과 같이 고의로 생니를 뽑아 병역을 면제받은 혐의는 무죄, 입영통지서를 받 고 공무원시험 응시 등 거짓 사유를 내세워 입영을 연기한 혐의(위계공무집행방해) 에 대해서는 유죄 판결을 받았다.
그는 트위터 글에서 "제가 이리 만들어놨으니 이 죄값 평생 지고 가겠다. 아프게 혼나도 다 제 잘못이거늘 누구도 원망하지 않겠다"며 "(고의 발치로 인한 병역기피가) 아닌 것만 밝히겠다던 제 자신이 잘못했다"고 적었다.
그는 이어 "여러분에게 받았던 사랑 너무 과분하고 천국 같았다"며 "하지만 무대에서 노래하고 방송에서 대중을 위해 웃음을 줄 수 있다면 뭐든 진심으로 했다"고 말했다.
또 "그렇게 사람을 좋아하던 제가 이젠 사람 눈도 보지 못한다"며 "이젠 저보다 더 어두운 곳에서 봉사하고 또 다른 삶을 살며 그것도 행복이라 여기며 살겠다"고 마무리했다.
MC몽은 2006년 12월 강남의 한 치과에서 멀쩡한 어금니를 뽑아 병역을 면제받고 그보다 앞서 7급 공무원시험에 응시원서를 접수하는 등의 방법으로 입영을 연기한 혐의로 기소돼 재판을 받아왔다.
