Choo Shin-soo singled on the first pitch of the game, and the Cleveland Indians never let up in setting a season high for hits in a second straight game.

This time, they got a win for their effort.

Choo went 4 for 5 with a homer, scored four runs and collected three RBIs to lead the Indians past the Baltimore Orioles 11-5 Saturday.

Shelley Duncan also homered for the Indians, whose 19 hits eclipsed their previous high of 16, set Friday night in a 9-8 loss at Camden Yards.

Jose Lopez had five hits and drove in three runs for the Indians, No. 2 hitter Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits and two RBIs, and Lou Marson had four hits, scored three runs and finished a homer short of the cycle.

The offensive outburst was a welcome change of pace, and the Indians hope to ride the wave of momentum back into first place in the AL Central.

“We don‘t do it for a while,” Lopez said. “Especially Choo and a couple of guys who got three, two hits. Maybe we start today and (continue) tomorrow and a week before the All-Star break.”

The Indians stranded 16 runners and went 7 for 22 with runners in scoring position -- and it hardly mattered.

“We swung the bat well today, especially the top two guys in our lineup. They set the table the whole day,” manager Manny Acta said. “Choo had a great day and Cabby had some huge at-bats, too. Between Lopez and the guys back there, they just cleaned them up. It was important to get all those runs because we haven’t been shutting teams down as effectively of late.” (AP)

추신수(30•클리블랜드 인디언스)가 시즌 8호 홈런 포함 4안타를 몰아치며 대폭발했다.

추신수는 1일(한국시간) 미국 볼티모어 오리올 파크에서 열린 미국프로야구 볼티모어 오리올스와의 방문경기에서 5타수4안타를 때리고 3타점, 4득점을 올리며 팀의 11-5 대승에 앞장섰다.

전날 3안타를 때린 데 이어 시즌 22번째 멀티 히트(한 경기 안타 2개 이상)를 작성한 추신수는 시즌 타율을 0.291까지 끌어올렸다.

1번타자 우익수로 출전한 추신수는 1회 첫 타석부터 방망이를 매섭게 돌렸다.

중견수 앞으로 총알처럼 날아가는 안타로 출루한 추신수는 후속 호세 로페스의 내야 안타 때 홈을 밟아 결승 득점을 올렸다.

1-0으로 앞선 2회에는 볼티모어 왼손 선발 투수 다나 이블랜드의 복판 직구를 벼락같은 스윙으로 밀어 때려 좌측 펜스를 넘어가는 솔로 아치를 그렸다.

두 경기 만에 나온 시즌 8호 홈런으로 2년 만에 두자릿수 홈런 달성에 2개를 남겼다.

4회 1사 1루에서 볼넷을 고른 추신수는 후속 타자의 내야 땅볼 때 다시 홈을 밟 았고, 5회 2사 3루에서는 중견수 앞에 떨어지는 안타로 주자를 홈에 불러들였다.

9-4로 앞선 6회 2사 2루에서는 우익수 앞으로 가는 안타를 날려 3타점째를 수확 했다.

8회 마지막 타석에서는 삼진으로 돌아섰다.

추신수는 이날 타점 3개를 보태 30개째를 기록하며 중심타자 못지않은 톱타자 노릇을 톡톡히 해냈다
