SAN FERNANDO, Calif. -- Two council members of this Los Angeles suburb who admitted to having an affair have taken out restraining orders against each other after an alleged violent spat.

San Fernando Councilman Mario Hernandez and Councilwoman Maribel De La Torre sought the court orders this week following the June 28 incident.

In court papers, both said they argued about a trip he was going on and about an iPad she wanted to get back from him.

A police report states an officer who went to Hernandez's home found broken glass, a broken red frame and damaged laptop and noticed red marks and scratches on the councilman's neck.

De La Torre and Hernandez are under court order to stay 100 yards away from each other until court hearings in late July.

De La Torre said in a statement issued Friday that she was "saddened" by the events of the past several days but declined to discuss the matter until potential legal issues are resolved.

"The only thing I will say is I have never raised my hand against her at any time," Hernandez said in a statement Saturday.

It wasn't immediately clear whether either plans to attend Tuesday's council meeting.

Mayor Brenda Esqueda told Los Angeles Daily News said that she believed they could attend the meeting without violating the court orders. She said she didn't know whether either will show up.

In November, Hernandez, who was the mayor and married at the time, and de la Torre shocked the council when they announced that they were romantically linked. His wife was in the audience. (AP)

불륜관계 남녀 시의원의 ‘막장 드라마’

미국 로스앤젤레스 위성 도시 가운데 하나인 샌퍼낸도 시가 남녀 시의원의 '막장 드라마'로 떠들썩하다.

샌퍼낸도 시의원 마리오 에르난데스(47)와 마리벨 델라 토레(여.41)는 최근 법원에서 서로 접근금지명령을 받아냈다고 8일 (현지시간) 로스앤젤레스 지역 언론이 보도했다.

불륜 관계였던 이들은 서로 상대방이 자신을 폭행했다고 경찰에 신고하고 법원에 접근금지명령 신청을 낸 것으로 밝혀졌다.

이들은 작년부터 '막장 드라마'의 주인공으로 나서 시민들의 분노를 샀다.

지난해 11월 당시 시의원들이 돌아가며 맡는 시장직에 재직 중이던 에르난데스는 시의회에 출석해 연단에 올라가더니 동료 시의원  라 토레와 불륜 관계라고 공개 했다.

충격적인 것은 당시 시의회 방청석에는 아내 애나 에르난데스가 앉아 있었다는 것이다.

여성 시의원인 실비아 볼린은 "세상에 이런 역겨운 일이 다 있느냐"며 벌떡 일어나 애나 에르난데스를 꼭 껴앉으며 위로하는 등 마치 TV 연속극의 한 장면 같은 광경이 벌어졌다.

엽기적인 고백에 시의회는 발칵 뒤집어졌고 주민들이 들고 일어나 사퇴를 요구했지만 에르난데스와 라 토레는  보란 듯 불륜을 이어갔다.

잊혀질만 하던 이들의 불륜 행각은 지난달 28일 에르난데스와 라 토레가 치고받는 몸싸움을 벌이면서 또 한번 '막장 드라마'를 연출했다.

에르난데스가 작성한 경찰 고소인 조서에 따르면 라 토레가 집으로 찾아와 생일 선물로 준 아이패드를 찾길래 지금 없다고 했더니 갑자기 뺨을 때리고 목을 조르고 얼굴을 할퀴는 등 폭력을 휘둘렀다는 것이다.

라 토레가 유리잔을 마구 던져 깨진 파편에 엄지 발가락을 다쳐 피를 흘리는 등 집안은 일순간에 난장판이 됐다고 에르난데스는 주장했다.

에르난데스는 즉각 경찰에 신고하고 법원에 라 토레에 대해 접근금지명령 신청을 냈다.

그러자 라 토레도 에르난데스가 자신을 폭행했다면서 맞고소하고 법원에 똑같이 접근금지명령 신청을 냈다.

이런 사실이 알려지면서 다시 불붙은 시민들의 분노에 시의회가 기름을 끼얹었다.

시의회는 7일 라 토레의 불법 혐의에 대해 조사하고 있던 샌퍼낸도 경찰서 질 카리요 서장에 대한 직위해제 결의안을 통과시켰다.

카리요 서장의 직위해제 이유는 공개하지 않았다.

카리요 서장은 "내가 왜 잘렸는 지 모르겠다"면서 "아마 시의원을 상대로 수사를 벌인 것이 괘씸죄를 산 것 같다"고 말했다.

할리우드에서 가까워 영화 산업 종사자들이 많이 사는 샌퍼낸도 시는 주민이 2만3천여명에 불과한 작은 도시지만 갑자기 로스앤젤레스 지역 언론의 열띤 취재  대상으로 변했다.
