| Self-defense gadgets have been selling well amid the growing fear about raping and other crimes on children as has been seen in the latest kidnapping and raping of an elementary school child on the school ground.
In particular, parents of late 30s and early 40s with young schoolchildren are found to be major customers of the goods.
eBay Auction said Sunday that as many as 67 percent of those who bought alarms, whistles, sprayers and other self-protection gadgets, June 10-11, are of late 30s and early 40s, indicating that two out of three are parents of elementary school children.
The figure is far higher than those in their 20s with 13 percent.
A general alarm or a small doll-shaped alarm can create sound of 90~130 dB when a child pulls it out from a cellphone or his or her bag when attacked by a stranger, an eBay Auction official said. A child can wear a necklace-type whistle with popular character drawn on around the neck, he added.

13일 옥션에 따르면 지난 10∼11일 이틀간 호신용 경보기나 호루라기, 스프레이 등 호신용품을 사간 구매자의 나이를 분석했더니 30대 후반~40대 초반이 전체의 67% 를 차지했다.
초등학생의 학부모로 추정되는 구매자가 3명 중 2명꼴인 셈이다.
이는 20대(13%)보다 훨씬 높은 수치이고, 같은 연령대의 지난달 구매 비중과 비
교해도 13%포인트 높아진 것이다.
이들에게 많이 팔린 제품은 휴대전화나 가방 등에 달고 있다가 위험에 처했을
때 핀을 뽑거나 줄을 당기면 90∼130㏈의 경보음을 내는 경보기나 작은 인형 모양의 경보기, 인기 캐릭터가 그려진 호루라기 목걸이 등 어린이가 들고 다니기 좋은 것들 이다.
