May: I was chatting with my friend Mike earlier， and he said that it seemed like bad luck has always hounded him since high school. John: Like how? May: Well， he says， his car would break down at least once every six months， even right after having it checked over by mechanics. Also the police always find him when his seatbelt does not work， or his stickers are expired. John: Hum… I sometimes feel the same way， but I think it's kind of superstitious to think that way. May: Maybe it is， but I also think that if "what goes around， comes around" is true， then he's paying his way in advance. Maybe his karma will pay him back later.

May: 숙명이라는 걸 믿어? John: 아니， 별로. 하지만 "인과 응보"라는 말은 믿지. 그런데， 왜 그런 걸 물어? May: 아까 전에 마이크하고 얘길 하고 있었는데， 걔가 하는 말이 자기는 고등학교 때부터 나쁜 운에 계속 쫓겨 다닌다는 거야. John: 어떻게? May: 글쎄， 걔 말로는 예를 들어 방금 정비공한테 정비를 받고 나서도 최소한 6개월에 한 번씩은 차가 고장 난다는 거야. 게다가 안전 벨트가 고장이 났을 때나 아니면 스티커 일자가 만료되면 꼭 경찰이 자기한테 온다는 거야. John: 흠… 나도 가끔 그렇게 느낄 때가 있지만， 내 생각에는 그런 식으로 생각하는 것은 다소 미신적인 것 같아. May: 어쩌면 그럴지도 모르지. 하지만 딴에는 만일 "인과 응보"라는 것이 정말 있다면 마이크는 앞으로 살아갈 인생에 대해서 미리 지불을 하고 있는지도 모르지. 어쩌면 지금까지의 나쁜 운에 대해 보상을 받을 지도 모르고.
