1. distinguished 저명한, 뛰어난

과거분사형 형용사인 distinguished는 다른 사람과 구별되어서 ‘뛰어난’이라는 뜻이다.

  2. effective 효과적인, 유효한

문맥에 따라 ‘효과적인’ 또는 ‘(법률 등이)실행중인, 유효한’의 의미를 가진다.

The law is no longer effective. (그 법은 이제 효력이 없다.)

  3. due ~하기로 되어 있는, 회비

be due의 형태로 주로 마감 또는 만기일을 나타내거나 예정을 표시하지만, 명사로 쓰이면 부과금, 회비 등의 의미가 된다. 또 전치사구 due to는 ‘~로 인하여’의 의미로 토익에 자주 출제된다.

  5. dramatic 극적인 (impressive, sudden, and often surprising)

드라마[희곡]와 관련된 것을 의미하지만 드라마[희곡]처럼 ‘인상적이고 급작스럽거나 놀랄만하다’는 의미도 지니고 있다. 이때는 increase, reduce등과 함께 잘 어울려 쓰인다.
