John: Well， sometimes. Could be more important for women， I guess. Why do you ask?
May: My friend Jane is having a hard time getting the job she wants.
And she thinks it's because of how she looks.
John: Hum. What kind of jobs does she apply for?
May: She's really interested in hotel promotion work but apparently some people think the PR managers have to have charming looks.
John: I understand why some people would think that way though.
Because she represents the hotel sometimes. Right?
May: No! She's not a model. She doesn't have to be beautiful to do her job.
Actually having a good personality should be more important for that position.
I think she's beautiful in that sense.
John: You're right， May. Beauty is only skin-deep.

May: 자기야， 외모가 중요하다고 생각해?
John: 글쎄， 가끔은. 여자들한테는 더 중요할 수도 있을 거란 생각이 드는데. 근데， 그건 왜?
May: 내 친구 제인이 원하는 곳이 있어서 취직을 하려고 하는데 잘 안되나봐. 그래서
걔는 그게 자기 외모 때문이라고 생각해.
John: 흠. 어떤 직업을 구하는데 그래?
May: 그 친구는 호텔 홍보쪽 일에 아주 관심이 많아. 근데 어떤 사람들은 홍보 담당자는 당연히 매력적인 외모를 가지고 있어야 된다고 생각하잖아.
John: 근데 난 그게 생각하는 사람들이 이해가 되는걸. 왜냐하면 그녀가 가끔은 호텔을 대표하는 사람이니까 말이야， 그렇지?
May: 아니지! 모델이 아니잖아. 그 일을 하기 위해서 꼭 예뻐야 할 필요는 없는 거라구.
사실 그 자리에는 좋은 성격을 가지고 있는 것이 더 중요해.
성격으로 말하자면， 그 앤 정말 천사 같은 아이야.
John: 네 말이 맞아， 메이. 미모는 거죽 한 꺼풀에 불과하니까.
